High Heels and Cobblestones

It is in total fascination that I wonder out loud – “Just exactly how DO They DO This?”……. whenever the women of Italy come out for their evening stroll and “walk” to dinner.

The skill, finesse, balance, grace, and ease…obviously, this is part of their DNA. Or are they all ballerinas? This trait must be passed on from generation to generation. For me,  learning to speak Italian would be much easier than learning to do THIS!

And…it’s downhill, on top of that…..

  1. whenever I try walking on cobblestones with high heels, I usually end up on a 3-day bed-rest, with some ice laying on my ankle..

Hey Sweet Girl! I agree with you on the finess of ANY lady from ANYwhere who can
do the hi-heel gracefully!! In the photo, it looks like the “older” looking lady may have
on low, ( what I call sensible) shoes. 🙂 Keep up the good news. Love you, see you
    during Christmas!!! Mama C 🙂

It is hard walking in a pair of heels like that on a flat and smooth floor let alone on the cobbled streets. I don’t know how they do it.

  5. When we were there it was a surefire way to tell the locals from the tourists. I stuck with flats but stayed away from tourist sneakers to not embarrass my daughter. I have tried this on some occasions in the North End of Boston (North End/Italy – same thing) and it really is challenging. Even if you don’t break an ankle, you surely do go through plenty of heels.

  6. Love this post on the bella figura! I have often left a detached heel or two between those cobblestones 🙂

Really the point is why do they do it? I value my feet too much to do this.

My friends ask me this all the time as I wear heels a lot in Seattle and while traveling in Italy. Very simple! Put most of you weight on the balls of your feet so the heels stay out of the spaces between the cobble stones!
