On Saturday, March 9th, we attended the annual Parmageddon at our local Whole Foods. Talk about fun! Each year, the employees of the cheese department gather at each of the Whole Foods locations in the US, Canada, and the UK, and at exactly the same time, each store cracks open a giant wheel of Parmigiano Reggiano.
And each year, they break their previously held Guinness World Record for simultaneously cracking open the most wheels of cheese.
This year, it was well over 400! Momma Mia!
When a wheel of Parmigiano is opened, it is super intense – the smell hits the air, and you are overwhelmed by all of the goodness that pours out of there! Interestingly, the cheese will never smell or taste the same ever again – from that moment on, the taste and smell will continue to change since the cheese has now been exposed to air.
Of course, “hair and make-up” was called in to get the team ready….
Here’s the event as it unfolded – and of course, we bought some of that freshly opened bundle of tastiness to enjoy at home.
Ahhh….a small taste of Italy in Alpharetta, GA…..makes me want to add a freshly opened bottle of wine to complete the picture…
