On the 29th of each month, we celebrate “Gnocchi Day” – a tradition introduced to us by our friends in Florence, Italy at the B&B In Piazza della Signoria.
Each month since November of 2011, we have faithfully followed the rules:
Secure gnocchi for dinner
- Place gnocchi on plate
Place your Lucky Euro under said plate
- Toast with tasty wine.
- Eat said gnocchi.
- Enjoy good fortune and luck.
Hopefully, it will work here in Abu Dhabi just as well as other parts of the world.
Dinner at Amalfi Restaurant, here at the Le Royal Meridien hotel in Abu Dhabi, is just what the tradition ordered. With their talented Chef Ciro from Naples, Italy, this sure fits the bill for Italian fare, lovingly prepared in his kitchen.
But wait – he’s gone for the day. And Amalfi is closed. What to do?
Lucky for me, Chef Ciro had left Chef Hem in charge of my gnocchi.
And Jojie took such good care of me, smiling, friendly and offering up stories of her home country for me to enjoy. Whew! All is well.
Here’s a look at all of the tempting items that were prepared for my enjoyment.
So, here’s to Gnocchi Day – 1/29/2013 – the first one of the year!
Happy Gnocchi Day to all. Such a fitting end to my journey to Abu Dhabi. Did I mention the violin music that fills the lobby while we dine? Ahhhh….spoiled I am…good night…!
