Florence, Italy 2012 Marathon

On the day after Thanksgiving each year, the city streets of Florence are closed to traffic, as almost 10,000 runners take to the streets for the annual Florence Marathon. It is truly a site to behold, as the crowds stand behind the barriers, cheering on the runners as they stream by.

There are bunny ears….

And Native Americans, in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday, no doubt…

Then, there is Dante – Running as if the Devil was chasing him!

Now, how this little doggie was able to complete their entry form to get a number, I’m not quite sure…

It is totally amazing to watch the determination and mental fortitude that is needed to complete a race such as this.

There are conversations that stop the race…

There are kisses….

And High Fives….

And MORE High Fives…

And then there is the camera man – who “runs” the Marathon from the back of the motorcycle….

Please hold your applause until the end…. ’cause these guys coming around the bend with their teams are truly winners and champions!

  1. What fun! I have to say the Native American guy should get himself a pair of “meggings” or shave his legs. Love the stop for a little conversation – what the heck, why not? and I think that dog looks like he thinks all the applause is for him.
