Viareggio is a beautiful seaside town on the west coast of Italy, a simple train ride from Pisa – and well worth the visit.
Last May, we decided to check out the town during the week, since the weekend is PACKED with kids heading in droves to the beach.
Once we exited the train, our goal of heading to the beach was an easy walk – guided by the super helpful lady in the Tourist Information center right there in the station. With map in hand, away we went on a new adventure.
Lucky for us, the weather was perfect, with a bright blue sky and just enough of a breeze to keep us cool.
Everything was so neat and tidy, since hardly anyone was there during the week.
After a scenic walk with our feet in the sand, and waves lapping at us, it was time for lunch. Off we went to the market for some exploration. Since it was late in the morning, we bought a banana and asked the fruit stand lady for a recommendation. She pointed to a pizza place and the deal was sealed!
Off we scurried to Pizzeria Stinchi – yes it was named for the husband, as that was his childhood nickname. Nothing “stinchi” about our pizza, though!
Just a tiny place, with 5 tables inside and 2 tables outside, we stepped up to the counter and placed our order.
We watched as the pizza was hand crafted just for us.
Without hesitation, we knew that the perfect selection for our beverage of choice was Ice Cold Beer.
Relaxation was the order of the day. After enjoying our lunch and chatting with the owner, we ventured back to the train station for our trip back to Pisa. And, of course, we stopped for gelato….yum!
