If your thought of “fast food” conjures up images of something you eat for lunch in the car, while frantically running errands, and talking on your phone, while texting….. then there is a treat waiting for you if you go to Pisa, Italy.
Italian “fast” food is not at all like what we have come to think of as “fast food” in the USA.
For $10 Euro, your “fast food” lunch at Galileo Restaurante in Pisa consists of this:
You get a choice of either Farro Salad with Fresh Vegetables, Gnocchi, or Pasta Pomodori il Forno. Then, you also get to pick as your 2nd course either Roasted Sliced Pork, or Artichoke Souffle.
THEN, dessert is either a Mixed Fruit Salad, or Yogurt with “Black Fruit” (which were blackberries!). Included is bread, water, espresso, and tip.
And, since I do not drink coffee, my glass of wine was complimenti. How is THAT for “Fast Food”!?!???!! Ahhhh……My kinda lunch!
Here’s a photo of my choices for the day:
Is that the faro that looks like barley?

Yes, it is. Spelt also looks very similar, but is a bit more reddish in color than farro. All are fabulous in soups, or cooked like rice and mixed with fresh veggies and some olive oil. Those sort of “salads” are good hot, cold, or room temp.

Only in Italy would you get a glass of wine as a sub for coffee – love it!
